Welcome to the Maricopa Wells Middle School Life Skills Class Webpage! Thank you for visitng.
Our class is a primarily self contained cross categorical special needs classroom. We have many amazing students with a variety of disabilities ranging from downs syndrome to autism to multiple disabilities. Our students focus their time on learning life skills along with continuing progress on their reading, writing and math skills. We work hard to meet the individual needs of our students by individualizing assignments and doing a lot of group and small group work. Our life skills curriculum is supported by our fantastic facilities where we have a full kitchen and laundry. In addition, we have an amazing garden behind our room that was the love of our previous teacher. We will continue his legacy by planting and growing food that we will then prepare in our kitchen.
Many of our students have the opportunity to participate in regular education classes with their non-disabled peers on a daily basis. The majority of our inclusion time is spent in art and PE along with band and any other electives appropriate for our student needs.
Our room is staffed with a special education teacher, Heidi Fawcett who has been with the Maricopa Unified School District for 13 years in varying roles. We have the most amazing paraprofessional staff any school could ask for: Eleanor Jones, Alice Barrera and Rosario Waites work tirelessly to keep us on track. The support system here at Maricopa Wells is additionally amazing, we use their support on a daily basis and thank them for their attention and kindness to our room.
We will add websites and information about our program throughout the year so check back often. If there is something you would like to see on our page please contact us.
